But he certainly was a fiend. Despite patronizing both the Eastern Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches legends of his evil were already forming even before his death. Indeed his mere six year rule of the principality of Wallachia between 1456 and 1462 is remembered as a time of terror … and as the principle inflictor of terror Vlad was justly immortalized during his reign with the descriptor impaler
