11:30am: Behind the Illusion: Halloween at The Magic Castle
For the past 51 years, the “Boo Crew” of the Academy of Magical Arts has created effects and atmosphere for the most exclusive week of Halloween parties in Hollywood at the world-famous Magic Castle. Join members of the Boo Crew as they share stores about past themes, how they’re able to trick-and-treat their members and guests, and offer a peek at behind-the-scenes of their magical operation. Some lucky attendees of this panel will ever walk away with passes to join the fun for this year’s Halloween Week “Horror-Vision 4D” at The Magic Castle!

11:30am: From the Headless Horseman to Jack Skellington: Halloween Lore on the Page and Screen
Since before Washington Irving’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow,” to Ray Bradbury’s The Halloween Tree, and films from John Carpenter’s “Halloween” to “Trick R Treat,” All Hallows Eve has served as a spooky setting on screen, the page, and on stage. Join historian Lisa Morton, and authors Benjamin Kane Ethridge, Kate Jonez, and John Palisano as they discuss their favorite Halloween stories, how they have tied the holiday into their own work, and some trivia about October 31st that they’ve learned along the way.

1:30pm: Los Angeles Horror Stories
Every small town has at least one spine tingling ghost story. Los Angeles has hundreds. Join local supernatural experts Scott Markus and Connor Bright of LA Hauntings, biographer James Zeruk (Peg Entwistle and the Hollywood Sign Suicide), Harry Houdini historian John Cox, and local ghost story expert Richard Carradine, as they share LA’s most frightening tales of the supernatural, and offer tips on where and how you might be able to catch sight of a ghost.

5pm: Stage Frights: Horror and Halloween Theater
From mausoleums to old abandoned houses, tales of Lovecraftian beasts to immersive, interactive vignettes of sheer terror, Los Angeles provides an unparalleled number of theatre companies devoted to horror. CreepyLA’s theatre editor Richard Becker leads a discussion on staged frights with Paul Millet and Jeff G. Rack from Wicked Lit, Jon Braver with Haunted Play, Zombie Joe from Zombie Joe’s Underground Theatre, and Dan Spurgeon and Drew Blakeman with the Visceral Company, as each describe their own approach towards the theatrical experience, and upcoming productions perfect for the Halloween season.

5:00pm: Garner Holt: I Was A Teenage Haunter
Lifetime Achievement Thea Award winner Garner Holt shares his career journey, from accomplished teen haunter in the Inland Empire to world-renowned themed entertainment industry designer and builder of animatronic figures. Joined by Doug Barnes of the Season Pass Podcast, Garner will discuss his love of Halloween, as well as his company’s involvement with such iconic attractions as Disneyland’s Haunted Mansion, Mystic Manor at Hong Kong Disneyland, and the Calico Mine Ride at Knott’s Berry Farm!

Chilling Tales of the Haunted Mansion – LIVE!
1pm & 4:30pm: Witness the crypt doors creak and the tombstones quake as Captured Aural Phantasy Theater commemorates the 45th anniversary of the Haunted Mansion with a live show inspired by the infamous attraction’s storied history, including the 1969 storybook and record telling the tale of two teenagers trapped in the moldering manor overnight. Features a live performance, music, spooky effects and weird projections mixed together into a show that captures all of the fun and fright of the theme park’s cursed ghost palace.
